Enrique Igelsias—“Turn the Night Up”
#62

It figured that Iglesias would jump on the EDM bandwagon, and also that it would be as clichéd and plastic as everything else he does. The only thing missing is a Pitbull feature. But since they’re rivals for lordship over the kingdom of Miami, I guess that will never happen.

P!nk featuring Lily Allen—“True Love”
#85

A great pop hook, and I love the fact that Pink berates her mate for acting like an asshole by doing the same, only with added sarcasm. It’s all a little soft, though, and Lily Allen is wasted—she should have been given a whole verse instead of only the middle eight. Good job overall, though.

Passenger—“Let Her Go”
#95

I knew we’d reach the bottom of the British singer-songwriter boom eventually, but it’s happened faster then I suspected. The vocals sound like a twelve-year-old whose voice broke early, and the level of sentimentality makes Ed Sheeran look like a stoic. All designed to make little girls’ hearts flutter with romantic arrhythmia. Grown-up girls know better, I hope.

Blake Shelton—“Mine Would Be You”
#100

After breaking out of his usual groove with “Boys ‘Round Here”, Shelton jumps right back into the schlock. As wild and wooly as he may act, bland is his comfort zone, and I wouldn’t expect him to step out of it more than once or twice per album for the rest of his career.
